Lots of non-gamblers try casinos for curiosity's sake and for fun. As they wander in the game house they might be attracted by the game atmosphere at a blackjack table. What kind of people might they see there?
Mr. Jack Nerd. Blackjack gamblers play to win, of course, but not like Mr. Nerd does. He's so dead serious about it, never smiles, and his overly engrossment puts him lost to the world and creating his own blackjack empire. Mr. Nerd plans to take over. He's often so quiet in his corner, hardly takes his eyes off his hand---figuring out how to play to win and have as many natural hands and hits as possible and put the dealer out of commission, at least for a while. Aware of the house's 30 percent winning odds, he focuses on the dealer knowing him to be the real "enemy" and waiting for the chance to come at him with increased betting while the cards and the counting are high.
The "care" bears. These are older blackjack gamblers who are lazy to think of winning strategies but nonetheless are aching to play to win. They try to be good neighbors especially with the dealer, show concern, laugh at every dealer's jokes, and obviously pay attention to everything a dealer says (even his sneezes and coughs), with the intention of somehow drawing support from him---and which he seldom gives. He does that and it's his pay or neck on the line. Dealers are hired to support the house, not some care bears. The "care" ends when Mr. Dealer doesn't give in to their plans, and the bear in them shows. They become a noisy blackjack sore.
The drunken Houdini. It's not because he's had too much to drink. This blackjack "drunken" master often leans off his chair left or right to whisper things or wink at his boys from the back. Often he has funny things to laugh about and he shows this off to a blackjack neighbor, but not to everyone, especially not to the dealer, so he leans over every which way, covers his face with his cards and acts laughing out loud. But don't underestimate him. He's there to also play to win. He has the knack to hit two sevens in the face of a dealer's six, and magically draws another seven for a big jackpot. Got that? Lucky 777.
So there's a glimpse of our typical blackjack neighborhood. One may just want to keep dropping by, or move into the new neighborhood to play to win.
